Thu'ban (Arabic: ثعبان) is a jinni who was worshiped as a snake god by pagan Arabs, he was also known variously as Hanash, Hayya and Hubab. The jinn often took the form of serpents, and they were a sacred totem to the Minaeans of Yemen. It was reported that the Prophet Muhammad told a Makkan man who was called Hubab to change his name as it was the name of a shaytan. Hubab was the giant serpent who guarded the treasures in the well of the Ka'aba of Makkah.
